USDA Rural Development presented a Distance Learning and TeleMedicine Grant (DLT) of $487,148 to Lake Chelan Community Hospital (LCCH) on Monday May, 23. The grant will be shared with Mid Valley Hospital in Omak, Okanogan Douglas District Hospital in Brewster and Klickitat Valley Health in Goldendale.

Press Release: Fiber Coming to Rural Healthcare Providers in Washington
Northwest Open Access Network, a non-profit fiber backhaul company in Washington known primarily as NoaNet, submitted two applications and was subsequently awarded grants totaling more than $154-million in 2010 to expand fiber access throughout the state with connectivity to targeted anchor institutions such as libraries, schools and rural healthcare providers. The fiber build is called Washington Rural Access Project, or WRAP.

The Bristol Bay Times: Marsh Creek wins prime contract for Southwest broadband
United Utilities, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of GCI Communication Corp., has chosen Marsh Creek, LLC as the prime contractor for 11 new microwave communications sites in a major broadband project to serve Bristol Bay and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. The contract was announced today by Martin Cary, vice president and general manager, GCI Managed Broadband Services.

Washington & Idaho Regional Extension Center: Apply for WIREC services today, limited slots are available
The Washington & Idaho Regional Extension Center for Health Information Technology (WIREC) is now accepting applications from healthcare providers across the two states who can demonstrate "meaningful use" of electronic health record systems. Providers who meet all requirements could earn incentives up to $44,000 from Medicare or $63,750 from Medicaid. Participation fees vary and limited slots are available.
